আর কত ভোগান্তি জলাবদ্ধতায়?

বাংলাদেশ নদীমাতৃক দেশ। বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে ছড়িয়ে-ছিটিয়ে আছে অনেক নদী। কিন্তু বতর্মানের চিত্রটা একটু ভিন্ন। বাংলাদেশের প্রাণ কেন্দ্র ঢাকা নগরীর বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূণর্ এলাকাগুলোয় বষার্কালে আসতে না আসতেই দেখা যায় অনেক নদ-নদী ছোট ছোট সৈকত। সমুদ্র সৈকত দেখার জন্য নগরবাসীকে কষ্ট করে সুদূর কক্সবাজার, কুয়াকাটা যেতে হয় না। মিরপুর ১০, কাজীপাড়া, শেওড়াপাড়া, মোহাম্মদপুর, শ্যামলী, মালিবাগ এই এলাকাগুলোতে গেলেই দেখতে পায় সমুদ্র সৈকত। যে সব রাস্তায় বাস, ট্রাক, প্রাইভেট কার, রিকশা চলাচল করে বষার্কাল আসলে মাঝেমধ্যে নৌকাও দেখা যায় এ সব রাস্তায়।

Among the top 10 causes of death in Bangladesh 5 are related to air pollution, experts said. The situation is more serious than we can imagine. The pollution of air is a global threat. According to World Health Organisation (WHO), after a worldwide collection of data, it has been found that only 12 per cent people live in the cities that are within the WHO’s guidelines.

পরিবেশদূষণ, ভূমিকম্পসহ বিভিন্ন প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগে আক্রান্ত ঢাকায় আরো একটি সমস্যায় ভুগতে হচ্ছে নগরবাসীকে, যা দিন দিন প্রকট আকার ধারণ করছে। এ সমস্যার নাম জলাবদ্ধতা। জনসংখ্যা দ্রুত বৃদ্ধি, অপরিকল্পিত উন্নয়ন কর্মকাণ্ড, প্রাকৃতিক সম্পদের অপব্যবহার এবং জলনির্গমন প্রক্রিয়ার শোচনীয় অবস্থাই জলাবদ্ধতার প্রধান কারণ। বর্ষাকালে রাজধানীতে অল্প বৃষ্টিতেই পানি জমে যাচ্ছে এবং দীর্ঘ সময় তা জমে থাকে।

What are we breathing in!
The air of our surroundings is not as pure as it needs to be. Everyday air is getting polluted by human activities such as industrial production, vehicles emission, and brick-making kilns and also from natural phenomenon as like- blowing dust particles. But the human activities influence the pollution mostly as environmental scientists said in 1999 that in the high amount of lead in the atmosphere from gasoline, ceramics, paints, batteries etc. are factors in air pollution. Bangladesh is a developing country where environmental pollution becomes a burning issue. Among the pollutions, air pollution becomes the priority throughout the world. Where Bangladesh is ranked as the third position in the world’s most air-polluted city according to WHO (World Health Organization).

আমাদের বাসভূমি পৃথিবী, কত অত্যাচার সহ্য করে আজো আমাদের বাঁচিয়ে রেখেছে। মানুষ হলে হয়তো বলত ‘বাবা আমাকে আর মারিস নে’। মানুষের কার্যকলাপ ও প্রাকৃতিক বিভিন্ন কারণে পৃথিবীর পরিবেশ আজ হুমকির মুখে। পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণের মধ্যমে পৃথিবীকে মানুষের বসবাস উপযোগী করে তোলার জন্য প্রতি বছরের মতো এ বছরও পালিত হচ্ছে বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস। এ বছর দিবসটির প্রতিপাদ্য হচ্ছে- ‘আসুন প্লাস্টিক দূষণ প্রতিরোধ করি’। ১৯৭২ সালে জাতিসংঘের মানবিক পরিবেশ সংক্রান্ত আন্তর্জাতিক সম্মেলনে গৃহীত সিদ্ধান্ত অনুযায়ী জাতিসংঘের পরিবেশ কর্মসূচির (ইউএনইপি) উদ্যোগে বিশ্বের ১০০টিরও বেশি দেশ প্রতি বছর ৫ জুন ‘বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস’ হিসেবে পালন করে আসছে।

June 5, it is the day in which World Environment Day is celebrated all over the world. Every year on this day, over 143 countries raise awareness on emerging environmental issues. In 1972, UN General Assembly established 5th June as “World Environment Day”. The first World Environment Day was then held 2 years later, in 1974, with the theme “Only One Earth”. Each year World Environment Day has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes. The most alarming environmental issues are taken into account and in order to get or find a solution.
