আজ বিশ্ব প্রাণী দিবস। এর মূল লক্ষ্য হচ্ছে, পৃথিবীর প্রতিটি প্রান্তে প্রাণিজগতের কল্যাণের জন্য বার্তা পৌঁছে দেওয়া এবং প্রাণীকল্যাণ আন্দোলনকে যূথবদ্ধ করা। জীববৈচিত্র্যের একাংশ জুড়ে রয়েছে প্রাণিকুল। প্রাণীরা পৃথিবীর অস্তিত্ব টিকিয়ে রাখতে সাহায্য করে। প্রতিটি প্রাণী তার কার্যক্রমের মধ্য দিয়ে জীবজগৎ রক্ষায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে। শুধু তাই নয়, প্রত্যেক প্রাণী জীবনযুদ্ধ করে প্রাণী ও খাদ্যশৃঙ্খল রক্ষা করে চলেছে।

The tourism industry of any country is a profitable industry. Bangladesh is no exception to the fact that tourism can make a huge contribution to the economy of any country. Bangladesh also has many tourist destinations to attract tourists such as Cox’s Bazar, the world’s longest uninterrupted natural sea beach, the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, the sea-girl Kuakata, wonderful grassland Sylhet, Chittagong Hill Tracts of tribal stoicism, Rangamati Kaptai Lake and greenery, Sajek Valley, Paharpur, Mainamati, Wari Bateshwar, Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manzil, Shat Gumbuj Mosque, etc. Many of those tourist places are located in rural part of the country. Thus having a unique opportunity for the socioeconomic development of Bangladesh.

World Rivers Day, set for September 27, is a global celebration of our rivers. With the support of United Nation the very first Rivers Day was celebrated in 2005 and since then it has been gaining in popularity with many events being organized around the world. Rivers Day was launched put forward by Mark Angelo in 1980, who was already an international river advocate. World Rivers Day aims to raise awareness and highlights the importance of rivers and encourages people to preserve important and beautiful rivers. Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (BAPA) has been observing this day every year with the partners organizations since 2004.

Dhaka, the city of our lives, is uninhabitable, the Economist Intelligence Unit of the United Kingdom announced in 2018. ‘Pollution’ and ‘traffic congestion’ are some of the reasons for being uninhabitable. Pollution and traffic congestion are interrelated. Long traffic jams on the roads play a major role in increasing air pollution. Although Dhaka is included in the megacity, there is no other megacity like Dhaka with so much traffic congestion.

Cycling and walking contribute to making city liveable
Currently, people are using cars so much that traffic is one of the major problems in many countries of the world. To solve this problem worldwide, every year on September 22, the “World Car-Free Day” is celebrated in many countries. The first “World Car-Free Day” was celebrated in 2000 and in our country the day was celebrated by some people and individual organization in 2006 on their own initiative. From 2016 onwards, the government here started celebrating this day. The purpose of this day is to set aside just a single day each month for taking vehicles off the road, doing renovations, providing free spaces for sports or diversion, giving people some relief from the mechanical life.

২০১৮ সালে আমাদের এই প্রাণের শহর ঢাকাকে বসবাস অযোগ্য ঘোষণা করেছে যুক্তরাজ্যভিত্তিক ইকোনমিস্ট ইন্টেলিজেন্স ইউনিট। আর এই বসবাস অযোগ্য হওয়ার একটি অন্যতম কারণ ঢাকার পরিবেশ। ঢাকার পরিবেশ দিনে দিনে আরও খারাপ হয়ে যাচ্ছে। পরিবেশের সবচেয়ে মূল্যবান উপাদানটি হলো বায়ু। ওই উপাদান ছাড়া আমরা বেঁচে থাকার কথা চিন্তাও করতে পারি না। এ উপাদানটি আমাদের অসচেতনার কারণে অনেক ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত। সবাই জেনেও এমনসব কর্মকা-ে লিপ্ত হয়ে যাচ্ছি- যার কারণে বায়ুদূষণের পরিমাণ যেমন বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে, তেমনি দূষণের ফলে আমাদের ভোগান্তির পরিমাণও বেড়ে যাচ্ছে।
