বাংলাদেশে ‘মিথেনের উৎস’ নিয়ে রহস্য
জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের কারণে সবচেয়ে ঝুঁকির মধ্যে থাকা দেশগুলোর একটি বাংলাদেশ। আর জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের জন্য কার্বন-ডাই-অক্সাইডের চেয়ে বেশি ক্ষতিকারক হলো মিথেন গ্যাস। প্রাকৃতিকভাবে আমাদের বায়ুমণ্ডলে বিভিন্ন রকমের গ্যাস ও জলীয় বাষ্প থাকে; আর মিথেন তারই একটি। প্রকৃতিতে নানা রকম পচনের ফলে মিথেন গ্যাস উৎপন্ন হয়। যদিও এই গ্যাস বায়ুমণ্ডলে খুব অল্প সময়ের জন্য থাকে, কিন্তু বায়ুমণ্ডলে এর পরিমাণ বৃদ্ধির ভয়াবহতা ব্যাপক।

In general terms, climate change does not introduce many additional or unanticipated risks but it will intensify some existing relationships between the environment and human wellbeing, making human life and livelihood more difficult and dangerous than they are now.
