On World Heritage Day, various cultural events and activities are organised in Bangladesh to promote the country’s heritage and raise awareness about the importance of preserving it. Schools and universities also participate in these activities to educate the younger generation about the country’s rich cultural heritage and the need to preserve it for future generations.

In general terms, climate change does not introduce many additional or unanticipated risks but it will intensify some existing relationships between the environment and human wellbeing, making human life and livelihood more difficult and dangerous than they are now. Only a few examples of extreme weather occurrences include droughts, flooding, waterlogging, cyclones and tsunamis, tornadoes, thunderstorms, river/coastal erosion, landslides, salty water intrusion, hailstorms and other natural disasters. These natural disasters have the potential to have profound effects on socioeconomic conditions, agricultural output, and human and animal health.

While e-cigarettes have been marketed as a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, research suggests that they may pose several significant health concerns.

Global Climate Risk Index 2021 of German Watch Report ranked Bangladesh the 7th most affected vulnerable country by extreme weather event during 2000-2019. Between 1900 and 2020, a total 352 incidents occurred in Bangladesh. Around 450 million people were affected by the disasters. It is one of the most affected countries due to disasters within the SAARC region. In 2020 a total of 5.4 million people were affected by monsoon floods which was the 4th worst disasters in the world. It is also imperative that between 1996 and 2015, disaster caused an averaging 0.732% of GDP loss per annum and total economic loss was $2.283 billion. It indicates to the severity of disasters in Bangladesh compared to rest of the Region. Thus, to successfully achieve Sustainable Development Goals, the aspect of Disaster Risk Resilience must be taken into account.
Teachers’ Day is a special day to show teachers how much we value them. It may also involve festivities to recognize their exceptional contributions to the society at large or to a specific field of study. In the opinion of Education International, it is crucial for the world to acknowledge a particular day at the national level, which is deserving of the proper acknowledgment of teachers working in social transformation. Building people is a teacher’s job. From the beginning, Bangladesh has recognized this day.
Many coal-power projects in Bangladesh have been abandoned. Continuing coal-plant pollution in this densely populated delta threatens human life, according to a statement by Bangladesh’s Poribesh Andolon, who calls for an end to coal-power development. Bangladesh has cancelled ten proposed coal-fired power facilities due to environmental concerns. The China-backed Patuakhai and Maheshkhali power plants, each with 1,320 MW capacity; the Malaysia-backed Maheshkhali plant, also with 1,320 MW capacity; a joint Bangladesh-Singapore project; and a joint project between Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation and Bangladesh’s state-owned Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh are among the plants that have been cancelled.

The budget proposal was unveiled to parliament two days before World Environment Day and two days after World Ocean Day. In the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2022-23, the government increased the allocation for environmental protection, but it is insufficient. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has been allocated Tk 15 billion in the budget, which was Tk 12.22 billion in FY 21-22. By 2030, the country’s funding and technological resources have been used to set a target of lowering carbon-dioxide emissions by 6.73 percent, with steps taken to make all existing and newly developed sectors environmentally friendly. The government is trying to ensure that by 2041, renewable energy would account for 40% of total energy resources. To develop climate resilience, the ‘Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan’ proposes investing US$80 billion by 2030. According to the projected budget, the investment will be funded internally and externally.
