Withdrawing Duties from Polythene Incompatible with Environmental Conservation

    by Team CAPS,  0 Comments

The budget proposal was unveiled to parliament two days before World Environment Day and two days after World Ocean Day. In the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2022-23, the government increased the allocation for environmental protection, but it is insufficient. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has been allocated Tk 15 billion in the budget, which was Tk 12.22 billion in FY 21-22. By 2030, the country’s funding and technological resources have been used to set a target of lowering carbon-dioxide emissions by 6.73 percent, with steps taken to make all existing and newly developed sectors environmentally friendly. The government is trying to ensure that by 2041, renewable energy would account for 40% of total energy resources. To develop climate resilience, the ‘Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan’ proposes investing US$80 billion by 2030. According to the projected budget, the investment will be funded internally and externally.

Cigarette Filters Threaten the Environment and Public Health, and Contribute to Plastic Pollution

    by Team CAPS,  0 Comments

Pollution is increasing as the world’s population expands. Our lack of knowledge, awareness and use of unnecessary plastic is contaminating the soil, water and air. At present, the use of plastic in the manufacture of practically all products is expanding, one of which is the cigarette filter! A research published in the Lancet indicated that about 1 billion people globally smoke cigarettes. More than 4.5 trillion filters are released into the environment each year. According to the World Health Organization, Bangladesh ranks 8th (39.10 percent) in the list of top ten countries in the highest cigarette smoking rate. The rate of tobacco use is steadily increasing. According to the WHO, approximately 8 million people worldwide are expected to die by 2030, the most of them in low-middle income nations. From research, these discarded filters are the most common source of global waste, despite the severe damage to the global environment as well as human health. Every year 49 billion cigarettes are consumed in Bangladesh. One of the major sources of environmental pollution is cigarette filters. Each component of cigarettes is hazardous to human health and the environment, including the filter. This may appear to be a safety net for smokers at first appearance, but it is also a significant contributor to environmental pollution.

Another name of microplastic is microbeads which are tiny plastic particles fewer than five millimeters in their largest dimension. Basically, we start our day by using microbeads, at the end of the day we having various foods in our dinner which is the jumble of microbeads.
